A little about the artist in English!

When other kids wished for wooden trains, fire-engines and rubber balls, Ken begged for paper. Crayons and slit up and flattened paperbags – that is how his art works all started. Already at 13, he took oil painting lessons from the acknowledged Malmö painter Axel Mader.
Later on, in the early 60´s and when working in the city of Helsinborg, he came to study for the likewise well-reputed Danish graphic artist Thormod Larsen.
To make a decent living, he has all through the years translated his inclination for color and form into a commercial expression.
As an art director, graphis designer and illustrator,
Ken Löfgren thus made himself a respected name in the region´s advertising circles.
On the side of his commercial career, he indefatigably worked on with his colorful arts; efforts that eventually, and most fairly, came to bear fruit. In the beginning of the 80´s, he finally made his name as an artist. Numerous warm-hearted judgements have been put on paper by critics who have met his works at the Krapperup Castle Art Gallery, with the Höganäs Art Society and more and more frequently at the renowned Liljevalchs in Stockholm."This is playful art, with more seriousness behind it than in it. A blazing, spontaneous and often festive, not to say amusing, artmanship– a kind of decorative art full of subtle humour…"
And on it goes. This sort of lyrical critic´s description of Ken Löfgren´s works is valid for what ever he creates; from miniature sketches and drawings, to playful sculptures and close to monumental paintings on canvas.
Ken Löfgren is, as already has been said, born with a piece of paper and a pencil (or a crayon) in his hands. What was the funniest he knew as a kid some 60 years ago, still is. A piece of cardboard, a transparent grease-proof paper, an old paper bag, rarely an expensive sheet of artists´ material… the lead always finds it and with no other support than what comes out of the inscrutable brain, intuitive pictures are created. Now and then pictures of yours and mine and everybodys´ weaknesses, nudeness, lostness and simpleness. Lead, when that weapon is closest to him, a marker, a felt pen, a crayon – all is fair in love and war!
